After serving in the Army in the 1940s, Mr. Thomas Sistrunk, Jr. became a barber in Akron, Ohio and was a civil rights leader in that city. In 1963, he participated in the March on Washington. As outreach, he trained many ex-convicts to be barbers, and helped them get a new start. Throughout his life, he was also an author and poet who wrote several civil rights-themed poems, some of which were included in an anthology. In this interview, he talks about his experiences in the Army, as a barber, and as a civil rights leader in Akron, Ohio.
