Temporal Leadership: Reflections on Service at the Highest Levels of Command

Lloyd J. Austin III

Description

In this third interview in the series with General Lloyd Austin, he talks about his service as a general officer, particularly his combat leadership roles in the Post-9/11 era. General Austin deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan in four different operational assignments. He also served twice at United States Central Command, spending his final three years of active duty CENTCOM Commander. He discusses decisions that shaped our most recent conflicts. General Austin also offers his thoughts on leadership at the senior levels of the Army, how it sometimes differs from leadership at lower echelons, and how some concepts remained constant throughout his entire Army career. The interview concludes with General Austin’s thoughts on the role that West Point played in his career and his life.
