Never Satisfied, Always Improving: Kelsey Minato and Army Basketball

Kelsey Minato

Description

Kelsey Minato grew up in Huntington Beach, California, and always seemed to have a basketball in her hands. A good player in high school, she was not recruited until late into her senior year. She embraced the idea of attending the Military Academy, and, in fact, sent in her letter of intent before being officially offered acceptance. For the past four years she has been a leader on the Women’s Basketball Team. She and her teammates have set multiple records, amassing 97 wins and an impressive 6-2 record against Navy. She is the first Army Athlete to have her number retired while still active. In this interview, she discusses her decision to attend West Point, her life as a Cadet, and her experiences playing Army Basketball. She examines the leadership lessons she’s learned both on and off the court. After graduation, she will become a Field Artillery Officer before she switches to her basic branch, Signal.
