Bernard Banks

Description

COL Bernard Banks graduated from West Point in 1987 and initially branched Field Artillery before transitioning to Aviation as a junior Captain. After Company Command, he made a decision to attend grad school and return to West Point to teach in the Department of Behavioral Science and Leadership. After his first tour of teaching at West Point, COL Banks returned to an aviation assignment and commanded an Air Cavalry Squadron in the Republic of Korea. After Battalion Command, COL Banks returned to West Point where he rejoined the Department of Behavioral Science and Leadership, eventually being selected to be the Department Head. In this interview, COL Banks discusses his experiences at West Point as a Cadet, an Instructor, and a Department Head. He also talks about his experience as an Army leader in the Field Artillery and Aviation Branches. He describes his mission and accomplishments as the chairman of the Admissions Committee and diversity recruiting. Finally, he provides his thoughts on the importance of maintaining high standards and living life to the fullest.
