Al Mampre enlisted in World War II, and joined the “Band of Brothers,” Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, in the 101st Airborne Division. During his training at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, he switched from infantry and became a medic, based on Boy Scout medical training he had received. He deployed with his unit to England, but missed the D-Day operation, jumping later in Operation Market Garden in Holland. He also participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and was in Bastogne during that fight. He was in Paris when the war ended. After returning home, he continued his college education, and worked for International Harvester. In this interview, he talks about his childhood, and enlisting in the Army during World War II. He describes his training and the operations he participated in. Finally, he talks about returning home, and what his service and reunions mean to him.
