Pioneering Diversity in the Army and at West Point: The COL Fred Black Story

Frederick H. Black Sr.

Description

Please enjoy this new interview, in which COL (R) Fred Black recounts his memories from over twenty six years of active duty service as an Infantry Officer and as a Professor at the United States Military Academy. Fred Black grew up in an Army family and traveled the world. He attended college and graduated from the Howard University ROTC program in 1968 and served his junior officer years as an Infantry Officer at Fort Bragg, in Vietnam, and in Korea. He arrived at West Point in January 1977 for a tour as a rotating faculty member in the Department of Social Sciences, followed several years later by another eleven year tour as a Permanent Associate Professor. He volunteered his time for many organizations and served on countless committees related to cadet development, academy governance, and community activities. In the video, COL Black discusses the constants and the changes he observed over his years of service, both at West Point and in the Army at large.
