Failures are Blessings in Disguise

Sarah Anderson

Description

Sarah Anderson joined the United States Navy following High School, following a family tradition of service. She went to Basic Training at the Great Lakes training facility. After basic training, she attended advanced training as a Master at Arms, the Navy equivalent of Military Police. She was then assigned to the U.S. Navy Base in Bangor, Washington with the mission of providing security for the submarine force. She became a coxswain for a moose boat that patrolled Dabob Bay. While in Basic Training, she decided to apply to the United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy. After doing additional research, she determined that USMA would be a better fit for her personality and goals. After gaining acceptance to West Point, she had to transfer from the Navy.

In this interview, she describes her service in the Navy, and her time at West Point. She compares the discipline she received in the Navy with her observations of discipline at West Point, and she talks about her projections for future service.
